Unreal Engine 5 Demo Made in Unity
A cover of the Unreal Engine 5 demo, made in Unity

Overview
I was super impressed when Epic Games announced Unreal Engine 5. The real-time GI and impressive Nanite topology system were amazing. But I couldn't help noticing how many people were amazed by the fidelity calling it true next gen. However I felt Epic's use of Quixel Megascans assets was pulling most of the weight.
So I thought: I wonder what I can do in a few hours, inside the latest non-preview version of Unity?
My Role
I built this scene using Unity's HD Render Pipeline. That let me utilize some beautiful volumetric FX and improve the overall visual fidelity through new rendering techniques and extra passes on specularity and surfaces to create a beautiful look.
I imported a few Quixel scans from the Unreal Engine demo and had some fun putting together a desert cave. Eventually I made a second pass with some inexplicable water and tree stumps, just because I think they looked nice. The end result was something fun and beautiful to look at.
